My physician is the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Soraṯẖ mehlā 5.
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਸੂਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰੈ ॥
जनम जनम के दूख निवारै सूका मनु साधारै ॥
Janam janam kė ḏūkẖ nivārai sūkā man saḏẖārai.
He dispels the pains of countless incarnations, and lends support to the dry and shrivelled mind.
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਹੋਤ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
दरसनु भेटत होत निहाला हरि का नामु बीचारै ॥१॥
Ḏarsan bẖėtaṯ hoṯ nihālā har kā nām bīcẖārai. 1
Beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, one is enraptured, contemplating the Name of the Lord. 1
ਮੇਰਾ ਬੈਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ॥
मेरा बैदु गुरू गोविंदा ॥
Mėrā baiḏ gurū govinḏā.
My physician is the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਕਾਟੈ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫੰਧਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि हरि नामु अउखधु मुखि देवै काटै जम की फंधा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har har nām aukẖaḏẖ mukẖ ḏėvai kātai jam kī fanḏẖā. 1 rahāo.
He places the medicine of the Naam into my mouth, and cuts away the noose of Death. 1Pause
ਸਮਰਥ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥
समरथ पुरख पूरन बिधाते आपे करणैहारा ॥
Samrath purakẖ pūran biḏẖāṯė āpė karnaihārā.
He is the all-powerful, Perfect Lord, the Architect of Destiny; He Himself is the Doer of deeds.
ਅਪੁਨਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੬॥੩੪॥
अपुना दासु हरि आपि उबारिआ नानक नाम अधारा ॥२॥६॥३४॥
Apunā ḏās har āp ubāriā Nānak nām aḏẖārā. 2634
The Lord Himself saves His slave; Nanak takes the Support of the Naam. 2634

LISTEN TO SHABADS IN RAAG AASA

ਆਸਾ ॥ आसा ॥ Āsā. Aasaa:
ਸੁਤੁ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ॥
सुतु अपराध करत है जेते ॥
Suṯ aprāḏẖ karaṯ hai jėṯė.
As many mistakes as the son commits,
ਜਨਨੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਤੇਤੇ ॥੧॥
जननी चीति न राखसि तेते ॥१॥
Jannī cẖīṯ na rākẖas ṯėṯė. 1
his mother does not hold them against him in her mind. 1
ਰਾਮਈਆ ਹਉ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
रामईआ हउ बारिकु तेरा ॥
Rāmīā hao bārik ṯėrā.
O Lord, I am Your child.
ਕਾਹੇ ਨ ਖੰਡਸਿ ਅਵਗਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
काहे न खंडसि अवगनु मेरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kāhė na kẖandas avgan mėrā. 1 rahāo.
Why not destroy my sins? 1Pause
ਜੇ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਪ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
जे अति क्रोप करे करि धाइआ ॥
Jė aṯ karop karė kar ḏẖāiā.
If the son, in anger, runs away,
ਤਾ ਭੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
ता भी चीति न राखसि माइआ ॥२॥
Ŧā bẖī cẖīṯ na rākẖas māiā. 2
even then, his mother does not hold it against him in her mind. 2
ਚਿੰਤ ਭਵਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
चिंत भवनि मनु परिओ हमारा ॥
Cẖinṯ bẖavan man pario hamārā.
My mind has fallen into the whirlpool of anxiety.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
नाम बिना कैसे उतरसि पारा ॥३॥
Nām binā kaisė uṯras pārā. 3
Without the Naam, how can I cross over to the other side? 3
ਦੇਹਿ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
देहि बिमल मति सदा सरीरा ॥
Ḏeh bimal maṯ saḏā sarīrā.
Please, bless my body with pure and lasting understanding, Lord;
ਸਹਜਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਗੁਨ ਰਵੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥
सहजि सहजि गुन रवै कबीरा ॥४॥३॥१२॥
Sahj sahj gun ravai kabīrā. 4312
in peace and poise, Kabeer chants the Praises of the Lord. 4312

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਛੰਤ ਘਰੁ ੫
आसा महला ४ छंत घरु ५
Āsā mehlā 4 cẖẖanṯ gẖar 5 Aasaa,
Fourth Mehl, Chhant, Fifth House:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
Ikoaŉkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
One Universal Creator God.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਵੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਆਉ ਘਰੇ ॥
मेरे मन परदेसी वे पिआरे आउ घरे ॥
Mėrė man parḏėsī vė piārė āo gẖarė.
O my dear beloved stranger mind, please come home!
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰੇ ॥
हरि गुरू मिलावहु मेरे पिआरे घरि वसै हरे ॥
Har gurū milāvhu mėrė piārė gẖar vasai harė.
Meet with the Lord-Guru, O my dear beloved, and He will dwell in the home of your self.
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਣਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ॥
रंगि रलीआ माणहु मेरे पिआरे हरि किरपा करे ॥
Rang ralīā māṇhu mėrė piārė har kirpā karė.
Revel in His Love, O my dear beloved, as the Lord bestows His Mercy.
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥
गुरु नानकु तुठा मेरे पिआरे मेले हरे ॥१॥
Gur Nānak ṯuṯẖā mėrė piārė mėlė harė. 1
As Guru Nanak is pleased, O my dear beloved, we are united with the Lord. 1
ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇ ॥
मै प्रेमु न चाखिआ मेरे पिआरे भाउ करे ॥
Mai parėm na cẖākẖiā mėrė piārė bẖāo karė.
I have not tasted divine love, O my dear beloved, within my heart.
ਮਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਬੁਝੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਆਸ ਕਰੇ ॥
मनि त्रिसना न बुझी मेरे पिआरे नित आस करे ॥
Man ṯarisnā na bujẖī mėrė piārė niṯ ās karė.
The mind's desires are not quenched, O my dear beloved, but I still hold out hope.
ਨਿਤ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਜਾਵੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਮੁ ਸਾਸ ਹਿਰੇ ॥
जोबनु जावै मेरे पिआरे जमु सास हिरे ॥
Niṯ joban jāvai mėrė piārė jam sās hirė.
Youth is passing away, O my dear beloved, and death is stealing away the breath of life.
ਭਾਗ ਮਣੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
भाग मणी सोहागणि मेरे पिआरे नानक हरि उरि धारे ॥२॥
Bẖāg maṇī sohagaṇ mėrė piārė Nānak har ur ḏẖārė. 2
The virtuous bride realizes the good fortune of her destiny, O my dear beloved; O Nanak, she enshrines the Lord within her heart. 2
ਪਿਰ ਰਤਿਅੜੇ ਮੈਡੇ ਲੋਇਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਜਿਵੈ ॥
पिर रतिअड़े मैडे लोइण मेरे पिआरे चात्रिक बूंद जिवै ॥
Pir raṯiaṛė maidė loiṇ mėrė piārė cẖāṯrik būnḏ jivai.
My eyes are drenched with the Love of my Husband Lord, O my dear beloved, like the song-bird with the rain drop.
ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
मनु सीतलु होआ मेरे पिआरे हरि बूंद पीवै ॥
Man sīṯal hoā mėrė piārė har būnḏ pīvai.
My mind is cooled and soothed, O my dear beloved, by drinking in the rain drops of the Lord.
ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਜਗਾਵੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਕਿਵੈ ॥
तनि बिरहु जगावै मेरे पिआरे नीद न पवै किवै ॥
Ŧan birahu jagāvai mėrė piārė nīḏ na pavai kivai.
Separation from my Lord keeps my body awake, O my dear beloved; I cannot sleep at all.
ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਲਧਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਿਵੈ ॥੩॥
हरि सजणु लधा मेरे पिआरे नानक गुरू लिवै ॥३॥
Har sajaṇ laḏẖā mėrė piārė Nānak gurū livai. 3
Nanak has found the Lord, the True Friend, O my dear beloved, by loving the Guru. 3
ਚੜਿ ਚੇਤੁ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਲੀਅ ਰੁਤੇ ॥
चड़ि चेतु बसंतु मेरे पिआरे भलीअ रुते ॥
Cẖaṛ cẖėṯ basanṯ mėrė piārė bẖalīa ruṯė.
In the month of Chayt, O my dear beloved, the pleasant season of spring begins.
ਪਿਰ ਬਾਝੜਿਅਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਆਂਗਣਿ ਧੂੜਿ ਲੁਤੇ ॥
पिर बाझड़िअहु मेरे पिआरे आंगणि धूड़ि लुते ॥
Pir bājẖṛiahu mėrė piārė āŉgaṇ ḏẖūṛ luṯė.
But without my Husband Lord, O my dear beloved, my courtyard is filled with dust.
ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਉਡੀਣੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੁਇ ਨੈਨ ਜੁਤੇ ॥
मनि आस उडीणी मेरे पिआरे दुइ नैन जुते ॥
Man ās udīṇī mėrė piārė ḏuė nain juṯė.
But my sad mind is still hopeful, O my dear beloved; my eyes are both fixed upon Him.
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਮਾਤ ਸੁਤੇ ॥੪॥
गुरु नानकु देखि विगसी मेरे पिआरे जिउ मात सुते ॥४॥
Gur Nānak ḏėkẖ vigsī mėrė piārė jio māṯ suṯė. 4
Beholding the Guru, Nanak is filled with wondrous joy, like a child, gazing upon his mother. 4
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਕਥਾ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਣਾਈਆ ॥
हरि कीआ कथा कहाणीआ मेरे पिआरे सतिगुरू सुणाईआ ॥
Har kīā kathā kahāṇīā mėrė piārė saṯgurū suṇāīā.
The True Guru has preached the sermon of the Lord, O my dear beloved.
ਗੁਰ ਵਿਟੜਿਅਹੁ ਹਉ ਘੋਲੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਈਆ ॥
गुर विटड़िअहु हउ घोली मेरे पिआरे जिनि हरि मेलाईआ ॥
Gur vitṛiahu hao gẖolī mėrė piārė jin har mėlāīā.
I am a sacrifice to the Guru, O my dear beloved, who has united me with the Lord.
ਸਭਿ ਆਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
सभि आसा हरि पूरीआ मेरे पिआरे मनि चिंदिअड़ा फलु पाइआ ॥
Sabẖ āsā har pūrīā mėrė piārė man cẖinḏiaṛā fal pāiā.
The Lord has fulfilled all my hopes, O my dear beloved; I have obtained the fruits of my heart's desires.
ਹਰਿ ਤੁਠੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
हरि तुठड़ा मेरे पिआरे जनु नानकु नामि समाइआ ॥५॥
Har ṯuṯẖṛā mėrė piārė jan Nānak nām samāiā. 5
When the Lord is pleased, O my dear beloved, servant Nanak is absorbed into the Naam. 5
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਖੇਲਸਾ ॥
पिआरे हरि बिनु प्रेमु न खेलसा ॥
Piārė har bin parėm na kẖėlsā.
Without the Beloved Lord, there is no play of love.
ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਗਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਦੇਖਸਾ ॥
लकिउ पाई गुरु जितु गि पिआरा देखसा ॥
Kio pāī gur jiṯ lag piārā ḏėkẖsā.
How can I find the Guru? Grasping hold of Him, I behold my Beloved.
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤੜੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਸਾ ॥
हरि दातड़े मेलि गुरू मुखि गुरमुखि मेलसा ॥
Har ḏāṯṛė mėl gurū mukẖ gurmukẖ mėlsā.
O Lord, O Great Giver, let me meet the Guru; as Gurmukh, may I merge with You.
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਸਾ ॥੬॥੧੪॥੨੧॥
गुरु नानकु पाइआ मेरे पिआरे धुरि मसतकि लेखु सा ॥६॥१४
Gur Nānak pāiā mėrė piārė ḏẖur masṯak lėkẖ sā. 61421
Nanak has found the Guru, O my dear beloved; such was the destiny inscribed upon his forehead. 61421

ਕਬੀਰ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ਫਲਨਿ ਪਾਕਨਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਆਂਬ ॥

ਕਬੀਰ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ਫਲਨਿ ਪਾਕਨਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਆਂਬ ॥

कबीर फल लागे फलनि पाकनि लागे आंब ॥
Kabīr fal lāgė falan pākan lāgė āŉb.
Kabeer, the fruit trees are bearing fruit, and the mangoes are becoming ripe.
ਜਾਇ ਪਹੂਚਹਿ ਖਸਮ ਕਉ ਜਉ ਬੀਚਿ ਨ ਖਾਹੀ ਕਾਂਬ ॥੧੩੪॥
जाइ पहूचहि खसम कउ जउ बीचि न खाही कांब ॥१३४॥
Jāė pahūcẖeh kẖasam kao jao bīcẖ na kẖāhī kāŉb. 134
They will reach the owner, only if the crows do not eat them first. 134
